Even with a struggling economy, companies realize that their employees are in need of some holiday cheer. This year bosses are handing out more bonuses and gifts than ever before. In fact, according to a CareerBuilder survey, “40% of employers plan to give their employees holiday bonuses this year, up from 33% in 2010.”
The problem with cash bonuses (not that getting cash is a real problem) is the rate of taxation. Your bonus of $1,000 will end up looking more like $600…Ouch! That’s why some companies prefer to buy actual gifts instead, that way you get to enjoy your gift instead of giving 40% of it back to the government.

Employees need recognition for a job well done. If they don’t get that credit, you can say “so long” to some of your hardest workers. So what do you do when you simply can’t afford to hand out bonuses or expensive gifts this year? Do a fun company gathering or night out with spouses. You can also get the whole office involved in secret santa or a white elephant gift swap.
Take some time to enjoy this holiday season with your work family. Take a look at our video to see how we are spreading our cheer!
What would mean more to you? A holiday bonus, a lavish holiday party with spouses, or a thoughtfully chosen gift just for you?
