How not to ruin your next career move

Written by Abby Parnell

Ok…so you’re ready for the next step in your career. It’s time to make the big move. What now?
Have you done the due diligence necessary for your job change?
Are you sure you’re making the right move?
According to a recent study done by research associates at Harvard Business School it appears that many people are jumping into the next position without thinking things through. They came across five consistently made mistakes which can help ruin your career.
The number one most commonly made mistake is that people are not doing the necessary research and due diligence before making the move. Without researching the company, understanding the business and culture, how can you be sure that this is going to be a good fit? Part of the reason that many people do this is that they are not moving “towards” their next career move but instead are running “from” their current job. In a haphazard attempt to get out of an unhappy situation you can often find yourself in a similar or even worse situation if you don’t do the proper research. Another common mistake is putting too much emphasis on the salary number and not taking all the other aspects into consideration.   Too many people are not thinking long term and putting the necessary time into their job search.
With all that being said…what better way to handle a job search than to have someone helping you do all this due diligence.   To have someone who can take some of that work off your plate.
Well what a coincidence…that is EXACTLY what a recruiter does.
